(M13) Hercules Star Cluster

 

DESCRIPTION: Discovered in 1714 by Edmond Halley, M13 is approximately 22,000 light years from earth, its diameter is roughly 150 light years across, and its magnitude is 5.8. This object can be viewed in North America during the Summer time, and is located in the western portion of the Hercules constellation. Because of it brightness, it can be seen if the location is very dark, and can be seen through a decent pair of binoculars.

NOTES: This was one of the first deep sky images I took when I started astrophotography, it was fairly bright for the location I'm in and it was at its highest point in the sky at the time of the shooting.
