(M57) Ring Nebula

DESCRIPTION: Discovered in 1779 by Antoine Darquier de Pellepoix, the distance of M57 is not really known, but the approximation seems to be somewhere between 1000 to 4100 light years from earth, with a visual magnitude of 8.8. This object is a summer object for North America and can be seen in binoculars. This is another popular object to photograph because of it  high altitude in the sky.

LOCATION: Elmhurst, Illinois
DATE: 07/31/98 10:09PM
SCOPE: 10" Meade LX200 f/10
FILM: Fuji Super G 800 Plus (Hypered)
EXPOSURE: 20 minutes

NOTES: This picture I took with some left over hypered film that I had to use up. The central star is barely visible, again because of the light pollution that I have to deal with here, but considering that the central star is about magnitude 15, I am still impressed that It came through.
